I tried Regaine 5% foam. It was awful. It made my hair fall out in clumps, up to 600 hairs a day. I itched all the time. My scalp hurt. My hair always felt dirty so I had to wash it all the time. It was just TOO much for me to deal with. Plus, my derm told me to stop. I would love to have my bio hair back. But, not that way.

Thank you so much for posting this! I had asked the girls over a heralopecia about their results with Regaine, but didn't get very many helpful replies. My HL is from AA, but I imagine the results would be pretty similar. Perhaps I'll forget about this particular treatment.

I started using Regaine before it was even approved for women to use, and stopped after 2 years due to lack of results.

I used Regaine 5% for two yrs. It did just produce vellimus hairs at the frontal hairline, nothing in the temple area or sides. I have diffuse androgenetic alopecia. I had some thickening at the top back part of my head. Also grew facial hair. I found in no way was it useful to continue because it was evident that I would never be able to wear my bio hair in any wearable style.

I used it for 6 months and had a lot of little baby hairs grow in the front but they seemed so much finer than the rest of my hair and the shed of the rest of my hair seem to get worse. The ends were always white and then they would darken as they got longer. I stopped it after 6 months as it dried my scalp out to much but I didn't find the shed got any worse when I stopped. I always worried about what affects it would have on my body as it absorbed into your scalp and is a medication although they do say it is safe. Just me I guess :)

When I researched Regaine I was underwhelmed by the results. It appeared that it only caused very short, thin vellus hair to grow - if it was going to work at all. This is great if you have a very short haircut and a little loss that these vellus hairs can fill in. But my understand is that these are not going to grow long enough to really be incorporated into a hairstyle that most women wear. My hair loss is extensive and I knew I wouldn't enjoy the application process, I don't have the patience to wait weeks or months to see if it works and I knew I wouldn't be happy with just vellus hair regrowth. The worst part was if you stopped for a short time, all that regrowth falls out - I didn't want to be tied to a medication, with side effects that I would have to commit to for the rest of my life LOL. It's a personal decision
